Chen Hai Highway (Middle Section) in Chongming District, Shanghai, spans from K18+000 to K42+530, extending 24.53 kilometers from Gangyan Highway in the east to San Shuang Highway in the west. Completed and opened in September 2006, the highway originally featured a dual four-lane layout with hard shoulders on both sides. In October 2020, the hard shoulders were converted into carpool lanes. Since the original lanes were emergency stopping areas with minimal traffic before the conversion, they had not experienced significant damage or major repairs. However, after the conversion and during use, the lanes developed various surface issues.
To prepare for the 10th China Flower Expo, a concentrated repair of the highway’s surface damage is planned. The project will use SpecPhalt asphalt penetrating curing agent for construction. After treatment, the average water infiltration coefficient of the asphalt surface decreased from over 350 ml/min to 0 ml/min, significantly enhancing the road's impermeability.
